Girl stands up against advances nearly crashes FB

Date:

New Delhi: Stalking and obscene messages is what all girls deal with on social media platforms. From ‘do you want to make fraandships with me’ request to ‘why the hell you are not replying’, girls are always used to this kind of messages.

While many choose to ignore such unwarranted advances, recently, a DU student decided to teach a lesson to her online stalker by sharing a screenshot of the lewd messages he was sending her on Facebook.

Prerna Pratham Singh, who was stalked by Raushan Kumar over the last few months, instead of ignoring it, thought differently.

Not bogged down by the thought of revealing her own identity via Facebook, she exposed the cheap stalker publicly.

Prerna, a final-year MA Political Science student, posted the screenshot with the message, “This married man is pretty much interested in knowing whether I conform to the qualifications of being a woman. And he is very curious about the anatomy of nether regions. His details are in the comment section. And whoever his wife is, Ma’am,you have my wholehearted sympathy for marrying such an offender.”

Following her message, the guy posted on his page that his account had been hacked and was misused, which got him a few likes from his buddies, and then he promptly deleted his account.

Within few hours, Dr Muktesh Chander, Special Commissioner Traffic Police Delhi openly urged her to file an FIR against Kumar. And shortly, Kumar realised it was payback time.

Prerna’s post went viral on Facebook, with over 50,000 likes and 7,000 shares. While the 800-plus people who commented on her post applauded her.

“I wanted teach the guy a lesson but ever since the post, my phone has not stopped ringing. People are accusing me of all sorts of things – ‘Why did you even reply?’, ‘Why didn’t you just block him?’, ‘Why did you respond in such sophisticated language? It shows you had something else in your mind’, and what not. But it’s fine. These are the side effects of standing up for something. Those people will never know how many messages like this have left me reeling with disgust and anger just like any other girl – be it on social media or in real life,” she was quoted by a leading daily.

And while this braveheart was fighting this battle, Facebook removed her post.

But, this whole internet-stalking episode shows just one thing, if someone is trying to act ‘cheap’ with you, don’t let them get away with it. It’s time that every young woman gives a fitting reply to all those ‘cheap’ people out there.

The message should be clear, if you can be nasty, we won’t take it. Instead we will raise our voice in the most dignified manner.
