Chandigarh: Punjab Education Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Surjit Singh Rakhra gave birth to a controversy by saying that the death of the 14-year-old Moga victim is god’s will.
“Death of girl is god’s will. We also travel every day, we do not know what will happen,” Rakhra said.
Meanwhile, the girl’s family continues to resist attempts to cremate her. The family has also turned down the state government’s offer of Rs. 20 lakh as compensation and a job.
The family is seeking cancellation of the bus company’s permit, which is owned by deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.
“We want action to be taken. We will not accept compensation. We want the bus firm’s permit cancelled,” victim’s father said.
Four people have been arrested so far for the sin.
Condemning the Moga molestation case, Punjab chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had admitted that the bus belonged to a company owned by his family. However, he assured that the accused will be brought to book.
The teenager, her mother and younger brother boarded a private bus from their village in Moga district to visit a gurudwara when they were targeted for resisting molestation attempts by a group of men.
