Amravati: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday began his 15-km-long ‘ kisan padyatra’ from Amravati during which he is meeting the farmers affected by unseasonal rains in Maharashtra. Gandhi met the families of the farmers, who committed suicide due to crop failure resulting from unseasonable rains. The Congress vice-president, who recently returned from a 56-day break, has been vocal in his support for farmers and opposition to the Land Acquisition Bill. During Zero Hour in the Parliament earlier on Wednesday, he criticized the government and asked whether the nation’s farmers were part of its ‘Make in India’ initiative. The Congress vice-president had visited Punjab earlier on Tuesday to assess the plight of the farmers.
