New Delhi: In fresh trouble for the Aam Aadmi Party, Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar on Tuesday landed in another controversy over ‘fake degree’ issue.Â
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asked Tomar to explain allegations that he faked his law degree.
Tomar, however, has rejected opposition calls for his resignation. “A fabricated case based on lies cannot be a reason to resign. My degree is 100% genuine, I have all documents to prove it,” he told reporters.
According to reports, the Bihar-based University,  where he had claimed to have done his LLB, has now claimed that the provisional certificate of his “LL.B studies†is “fabricated and does not exist in the institution’s recordâ€.
Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University in Bihar has filed its enquiry report before the Delhi High Court, stating that the serial number of the provisional certificate in the university records showed the name of some other person in a different stream of study and not that of Tomar.
“It is respectfully submitted that on the basis of the inquiry report, and in the university records, the provisional certificate bearing Serial No. 3687 was issued on July 29, 1999 to Mr Sanjay Kumar Chaudhary for BA (Honours) political science examination held in 1998,†said the affidavit placed before Justice Rajiv Shakdher.
“Accordingly, the provisional certificate in the name of the respondent No. 5 (Mr Tomar) is fabricated document and does not exist,†it said.
The university was responding to the notice issued to it on a plea alleging that Tomar had got himself enrolled as an advocate on the basis of a “false and bogus†graduation degree. The court had also sought reply from the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University in Uttar Pradesh, from where the city law minister said he had graduated in science.
Reacting to the allegations, both Congress and BJP demanded the resignation of the law minister. “Delhi Law Minister Jitendra Tomar should be sacked,’ said Congress’ Ajay Maken.
