Date:

Czech ice-hockey legend Jaroslav Holik, who led his country’s under-20 team to world titles in 2000 and 2001 as a coach, has died at the age of 72, local media said on Friday.

As a player, Holik helped former Czechoslovakia win the world championships in 1972 as the center of a line also comprising his younger brother Jiri.

Holik also has two silver and three bronze medals from world championships and an Olympic bronze from Sapporo 1972.

In 1965-1973, he scored 57 goals in 142 games for Czechoslovakia, which split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 1993.

Holik’s daughter Andrea won the junior Wimbledon tournament in 1985 before marrying compatriot and ice-hockey defenceman Frank Musil. Their son David Musil played his first four NHL games for the Edmonton Oilers this month.

Holik’s son Bobby won the Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils in 1995 and 2000.
