UPSC declares civil services exam result

Date:

New Delhi: The Indian Civil Service system is the backbone of the administrative machinery of the country.

In the Indian democracy, the ultimate responsibility for running the administration rests with the elected representatives of the people which are the ministers. But the handful of ministers cannot be expected to deal personally with the manifold problems of modern administration. Thus the ministers lay down the policy and it is for the civil servants to carry out this policy.

However, to be part of the administrative body of the civil service, one has to pass three levels of tests.

The results of the first round of the civil services (main) examination, 2014, were declared on Sunday night by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

The personality test of successful candidates is likely to commence from April 27, the UPSC said.

The results have been declared pending the outcome of a review petition filed in the Supreme Court by the Centre seeking to review its recent verdict that scrapped reservation for Jat community, official sources said.

However, there was no mention of the Supreme Court case in the press release issued late at night by the Commission.

A list carrying roll numbers of successful candidates have been put up on the UPSC’s website – www.upsc.gov.in.

The Supreme Court had on March 17 set aside the decision of former UPA regime to include Jats in central list of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) to accord quota benefits to them following which, the Centre had moved the apex court on April 1 seeking review of its decision.

Thousands of students appeared in the prestigious civil services (main) examination held during December 14-20, 2014.

The examination is conducted annually by the UPSC to select officers for Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) among others.

The examination is conducted in three stages – preliminary, main and interview.
