Hit-and-run case: Salman to appear in court today

New Delhi: Salman Khan’s controversial 2002 hit-and-run case hearing is scheduled to take place on Monday. The actor, who was asked to be present in court, is expected to be there during the session.

In the previous hearing that took place on 27 March, the actor had stated that he was not driving during the ill-fated accident, he also denied being under the influence of alcohol on the night.

 Earlier, last week, Khan’s driver Ashok Singh took responsibility stating that he was driving the car. He also added that he lost control of the car because the tyre of the white Toyota Land Cruiser burst.

The actor’s car had rammed into the American Express Bakery in suburban Bandra, close to his sea-front home in Galaxy Apartments, killing one person on the pavement and injuring four others on September 28, 2002. The actor was arrested the next morning by the Bandra police.

The actor is facing charges of IPC Sec. 304(II) – which attracts a 10-year jail sentence, Sec. 279, Sec. 337, Sec. 338, Sec. 427, and under Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Bombay Prohibition Act, 1949.
