Modi pays tribute to Father of the Nation

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary on Thursday.

Modi tweeted, “My tributes to Pujya (respected) Bapu.”

The Father of the Nation was assassinated on this day in 1948 in the national capital during a prayer meet.

Modi also paid tributes, on the Martyr’s Day observed today, to all those who laid down their lives for the country.

“On Martyrs’ Day, I pay homage to each & every martyr who laid his or her life for our Nation.”

Gujarat, Gandhi home state, will pay tribute to by observing two minutes of silence at 11 a.m.

An all-religion prayer meeting has been organised at the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad and Kirti Mandir in Porbandar, the birth place of Mahatma Gandhi.

Prominent leaders from various political parties and other dignitaries will pay floral tributes at Raj Ghat in New Delhi.
