Big changes in offing for Foreign Office

New Delhi: The new Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar’s appointment will mean that the Foreign office will also have a big shake up in the coming months.

Sources say that Jaishankar is keen to get officials with proven competence in his team. 

Jaishankar has picked Shilpak Ambule as Director in his office.  

Insiders say that amongst the key appointments will be a new Indian envoy to the US, and India’s Ambassador to France Arun Singh is the front runner.

Another slated change is of former MEA spokesperson Vishnu Prakash who is being sent to Canada as the new Indian High Commissioner, while Navdeep Suri will be the new Indian Envoy to Australia.

Spokesperson in the MEA, Syed Akbaruddin is tipped to go to Geneva as the Permanent Representative to the UN.

For the post of the new spokesperson of the Foreign office there are three officials who have been interviewed by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and the choice is likely between writer diplomat Vikas Swaroop and India’s Ambassador to Ethopia Sanjay Verma.

Another contender is Gopal Bagley who is the Joint Secretary in the Ministry was Director with the External Affairs Minister SM Krishna during the UPA government. Mohan Kumar is tipped to be the new Indian envoy to France .

Besides this new Indian envoys will be sent to the South Korea and Bahrain.
