R-Day to be aired live globally

Date:

New Delhi: With the impending R-Day parade with US President Barack Obama as chief guest, the Narendra Modi led government has asked Indian embassies across the globe to display the R-Day parade live on giant screens in the premises in an attempt to market the country abroad.

The Modi administration has told the foreign ministry to ask Indian embassies to put up screens to show the parade on Monday.

“This will help to market India, its ethos, culture, and diversity and military strengths,” a government official said.

India has more than 160 diplomatic missions and posts. Indian embassies and missions previously used to host reception for local guests in the respective countries on the occasion of the Republic Day.

Last September, when Modi launched his Make in India programme in Delhi, some Indian embassies showed it live, while others held special meetings with local investors to appraise them about the initiative and seek investment.

Special arrangements are also being made for easy access of footage on real-time basis to foreign news television channels.
