The Nike MAG is inspired by the self-tying shoes concept and now he is all set to bring it by the end of this year. Self-tying shoes aren’t a common thing yet, but Nike is hoping to change that.
The company has filed for a patent for the shoes’ Power Laces, which is activated by pressing a button on the side of the shoes. The machinery that allows the shoes to self-tie with a series of gears and motors is mostly built in to the shoes’ soles.
Tinker Hatfield, Nike’s designer, hinted to the arrival of Power Laces in 2015 when he said, “Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say YES!†at a press conference in New Orleans.
If the style of the MAG shoe seems a bit familiar, it’s because the company has made them before, just without the Power Laces. They were released as a limited edition shoe and were auctioned off for a total of six million dollars, all of which went to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
