Kangaroos close in on Indian hunt

Date:

Hyderabad: As Day 4 of Test number 4 drew to a close, the Australians were closing on yet another win, closing the day at 251/6, with an overall lead of 348 runs.

The Indians resumed Day 4 at 342/5, with Virat Kohli approaching his 150 and Wriddhiman Saha lending him solid support. The Aussies had early celebrations as Harris removed Kohli for 147, bringing Ashwin into the mix.

Saha fell soon after, in the 131st over, taken by Hazlewood for 35. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar joined Aswin in the middle and took the score to 391/7 in 135 overs. The duo proceeded with extreme caution lasting for 14 overs till lunch, when the Indian scoreboard read 407/7.

Post lunch, the strategy by the Indians looked different. Ashwin and Kumar began batting with some zeal, bringing up at least one boundary an over, thereby making proceedings a little faster. The score was 442/7 in 150 overs. As the going began to smoothen out for the Indians, one questionable decision by the third umpire saw Bhuvneshwar Kumar walking back to the pavillion for 30, done in by Lyon.

In the meantime, Ashwin reached his half century, a very well-made one, but fell to Starc immediately, bringing Yadav into the thick of actions. Shami seized the moment and whacked two fours and one six, to take the score to 470/9 in 160 overs. However, Yadav fell soon after for 4, taken by Harris, wrapping the Indian innings at 475. The Australians led by about 100 runs.

The Australian second innings began with Rogers and Warner beginning the proceedings. The Indians got an early breakthrough as Ashwin struck in the 2nd over, removing Warner for 4. However, new man Watson and Rogers began firing all cylinders, but Ashwin provided relief for the Indians removing Watson for a quick-fire 16, bringing in skipper Smith. At the end of 10 overs, the Australians had scored 62/2.

Smith began destroying the Indian bowling attack inching towards his half century. Just as Rogers brought up his 50, he was removed by Bhuvaneshwar Kumar for 56. Marsh came into the crease, played a blink and miss innings succumbing to Ashwin for 1.

Burns walked in to take charge, but the Aussie wickets kept tumbling like a pack of cards, the next casualty being Smith, done in by Shami for 71. The Australian scoreboard read 165/5 in 31 overs as Haddin walked in. The Aussies engaged in some absolutely beautiful cricket after the fall of Smith, but the Indians intervened cutting the carnival short when Ashwin removed Burns for 66.

The day ended with this wicket, Australians at 251/6.
