Dikshit’s support to AAP not backed by Congress

Date:

Former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit’s promise of support for the Aam Aadmi Party, in case the upcoming polls yield a fractured mandate, has found few takers in the Congress.

“We had given outside support to AAP to form the government after the Assembly election over a year ago,” Dikshit said on Thursday.

“I cannot rule out supporting the AAP if a similar situation arises after the polls. Any decision on the party’s strategy, depending on the outcome of the election, will be taken by the top leadership,” she added.

Notably, three-time Delhi CM Dikshit was unseated from her bastion, New Delhi, by AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal in the 2013 elections.

Soon after her statement, however, her party colleagues dismissed it as her personal opinion.

“This is not the party’s decision. This is her own ideology and nobody can question her on that. But the party is extremely sure about not joining hands with Arvind Kejriwal. He is a corrupt leader who made false promises to the public. Our party will come back to power without giving or receiving any support from other parties,” Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) spokesperson Mukesh Sharma said.
