Congratulations pour in for Imran-Reham marriage

Date:

Islamabad: Congratulation messages poured in numbers from all over the country after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Imran Khan, 62, got hitched with the former BBC weathergirl Reham Khan, 41, in closed-door nuptials graced by a very select gathering here at his palatial residence in Bani Gala.

In his gratulatory message Ameer (Chief) of Jamaat-e-Islami, Sirajul Haq said, “Before his marriage it was just one ‘Khan’ now there are two. I want the PTI leader to accept my cordial congratulations.”

A very interesting ‘post matrimonial quip’ came from Federal Minister for Planning & Development, Ahsan Iqbal. “We want the judicial commission to be formed before January 18 lest Khan should be celebrating his honeymoon at another sit-in outside Parliament House,” the ruling Pakistan Muslim League minister said.

Reporters at a presser laughed their hearts out when Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman poked fun at Khan for getting married again at this ripe age.

“Well first of all, Khan is older than I am, secondly how can I comment on someone’s second marriage when I myself don’t wish for another,” Reham said smiling.

Former Pakistani cricketer also congratulated the newly-wed couple. “Many many congrats @ImranKhanPTI . Duaas and Lots of best wishes.”

Washim Akram: “Good on you Skipper ,Congratulations! My family and I wish you all the happiness with your blessed new life #secondtimearound #goodonyou.”

Shaniera Akram (Washim’swife): “Fantastic news!Congratulations Imran & Reham Khan. Marriage is a beautiful Union,@wasimakramlive and I are wishing you all the best-Mubarak!”

In addition to that politicians and other notable dignitaries congratulated Khan on his second espousal.

Imran Khan, who is 62 and the father of two sons from his previous marriage to British socialite Jemima Goldsmith, tied the knot with Reham Khan, the 41-year-old host of a Pakistani political talk show, in an Islamic ceremony before a handful of witnesses.

“There are no wedding or valima receptions. Tomorrow food will be distributed amongst poor children,” Khan’s party spokeswoman Shireen Mazari said.

Khan wore a cream-coloured Sherwani, the national dress of Pakistan, while Reham wore an off-white Peshwaz dress with red brocade border.

The cricketer-turned-politician married Jemima in 1995, but divorced her after nine years and since then he has spent most of his time building his political career and his party.
