Benedict Cumberbatch and his fiancee Sophie Turner confirmed on Wednesday that they are expecting their first child.
In a statement, the star’s publicist said: “I am delighted to confirm that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are expecting their first child. They are both over the moon.â€
The news of the couple’s first child comes three months after Cumberbatch announced their engagement via newspaper — proving he is an old-fashioned gentleman of excellent caliber.
The couple faced several questions about their upcoming wedding as Cumberbatch makes the award-season media rounds for his critically acclaimed role as Alan Turing in “The Imitation Game.”Â
“I think I’ll be having a very private wedding,” he told Us Weekly back in November. No doubt becoming a father will also be a new and exciting chapter for the established actor and his wife to be.Â
On Sunday, the actor is a frontrunner for the best actor in a drama award at the Golden Globes; his name is also likely to appear on the Bafta nominations list, announced on Friday morning.
