Obama to get Mysore shawl on Republic Day

New Delhi: US President Barack Obama, who will be visiting India as a special guest for this year’s Republic Day celebrations, will be presented with a Mysore silk shawl.

Rashtrapati Bhavan ordered 50 Mysore silk shawls to honour visiting foreign dignitaries.

It was decided that Obama, the first US president to be a chief guest on Republic Day, will be receiving a soft white Mysore silk shawl of India’s 55th celebrations of the day.

“Feels very great, we are extremely happy and proud,” Karnataka Silk Corporation General Manager Sadanand Gowda said.

According to reports, surveillance satellites will be deployed around the capital to ensure the US President’s security. 

This will be first time when the US President will be the chief guest at India’s Republic Day parade.
