New Year resolutions for celebs!

Date:

The past year saw many famous personalities get into uncomfortable situations, saying or doing the wrong things. Now that we’ve entered a new year, they must be given a chance to redeem themselves.  Here are a few New Year resolutions we would like to see some celebrities and politicians make, and keep.

Luis Suarez: After the infamous footballer from Uruguay bit Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini, he was sent home from the FIFA World Cup amidst much controversy and was banned from international football for four months.  Our recommendation for him would be to resolve to ‘watch his mouth’ this year. After all, he wouldn’t want his antics to bite his career short, would he?

Robert Vadra: Vadra assaulted a reporter from ANI after being asked a question about the Haryana government’s intention to investigate all land deals including those involving Vadra. The perfect New Year resolution for the Gandhi family’s son in law would be to keep his cool and try to not jeopardise the Congress leadership’s already flailing reputation. Yes Mr. Vadra, we’re serious.

Rahul Gandhi: Rahul Gandhi is good at not speaking, and saying the wrong things when he does. His first proper interview on TV in ten years was disappointing. It’s high time he realised that structural reform is not the answer to everything, and despite the ridicule Arnab Goswami has earned for reiterating it, the nation does want to know what your plans and goals are. Rahul Gandhi must resolve to think, and then actually speak.

Salman Khan: Bollywood’s favourite bhai has been using the same script for all his movies for quite a few years now, the only variation being the lead actress and the punch line of his dialogues. Wanted, Jai Ho, Dabangg, Dabangg 2, and Kick, were all the same movie with different characters. Sallu Bhai, please decide to be kind to other humans and use a different script this year.

Narendra Modi: The PM hasn’t been in office for a lot of time, but there were expectations that his government has failed to live up to. Common complaints include that he has spent more time visiting other countries, and despite having a clear majority in the Lok Sabha, his government has not been able to handle disruptions in parliamentary proceedings as effectively as it should have. Modi has everyone: from the aam aadmi to high flying foreign investors, waiting eagerly for achhe din to arrive. In 2015, we would like to have him promise to not make promises he can’t keep.

Arvind Kejriwal: 2014 has been quite a year for social activist turned politician Arvind Kejriwal, who was elected as the Delhi CM, only to resign after a term of only 49 days. He is now contesting the state elections again, but a lot has changed since then. His party’s chances of winning have gone down significantly. The AAP chief must resolve to fulfil his responsibilities and negotiate when he has to, instead of simply stepping down to prove his point.

Alia Bhatt: Alia Bhatt should resolve to read the newspaper, at least before she goes on a TV show, if not every day. The young actress earned herself a lot of ridicule when she could not answer who the President of India was, correctly. She later starred in a Youtube video by the popular channel, “The Viral Fever”, taking a satirical take on her goof- up. Now that she’s taken it in good spirit, we hope she won’t hesitate to resolve to change for the better.

Kim Kardashian: The Hollywood celebrity, who’s famous for being famous, gained a lot of publicity this year for her racy cover photo shoot for the Paper magazine. The headline for the piece by the magazine was “Break the Internet”, which led to widespread criticism for the promotion of superficial standards of beauty. There was even a counter-campaign seeking to “restore the internet”, with pictures of women who have gained excellence in various fields. Perhaps this year Kim should resolve to do something worthwhile to be known for.
