NaMo takes Anti-terror lessons from NY Mayor

Date:

New York: Arriving in New York on Friday Prime Minister Narendra Modi wasted no time to dive into the 5-day visit and met the city’s mayor Bill de Blasio.

In his meet, Modi took anti-terror lessons from Blasio, discussing the possibilities of cooperation between their anti-terror squads or police forces in the concept of mega city policing.

Since 9/11, New York has placed extensive emphasis on its intelligence and strengthening of police force and the Prime Minister was extremely keen to understand, how the city metamorphosed its police force.

Modi discussed the common threats that large cities in India and New York face and the prospect of working together. Prime Minister also referred to how New York City could assist Indian cities in handling large crowds.

The Prime Minister in recent times has spoken about the rejuvenation of urban spaces and brought these up with Blasio, also discussing smoking in public places. The Mayor congratulated Modi on the recent decisions in India about smoking and increase in fines.

Modi will on Saturday give his speech in the UN General Assemby – which is awaited with baited breath especially after Nawaz Sharif’s explosive comments on Kashmir. Ministry of external affairs spokesperson has promised a reply by the prime minister on the contentious Kashmir issue.
