Murray makes Shenzhen final after first set scare

Date:

Andy Murray powered through his ATP Shenzhen Open semi-final Saturday, and will meet Tommy Robredo in the tournament’s climax as he chases points to make November’s ATP World Tour Finals.

The British second seed in Shenzhen is currently ranked 11th in the world and needs to enter the top eight to make the end of season finale in London.

He had an early scare losing the first set of his semi-final against Juan Monaco of Argentina, but took command and eventually won 2-6, 6-3, 6-0.

Spain’s Robredo, the fourth seed in Shenzhen beat sixth seed Columbian Santiago Giraldo in his semi-final 6-1, 6-4.

The Shenzhen Open is a new ATP tournament in China, and its introduction this year means China in 2014 has three successive men’s tournaments over three weeks.

Murray is scheduled to play in the China Open in Beijing and the Shanghai Masters following Shenzhen.
