Bolpur/Burdwan:Â The father of the Visva-Bharati student, who was allegedly molested by three fellow students, said he wants to meet West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to seek justice for his daughter.
The girl’s father said on Saturday he would like to meet the chief minister as he did not have faith on the Visva-Bharati authorities, nor the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The man from Sikkim alleged that the UGC representatives threatened him after he did not allow them to meet his daughter, who is undergoing treatment at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital (BMCH).
“I did not allow them to meet my daughter as she is tired and mentally upset repeating her ordeal time and again to various people,” he said.
He claimed that they then threatened him saying he would be in trouble for this (not allowing them to meet her).
The UGC team members — UGC joint secretary Ratnabali Banerjee and Tezpur University Vice-Chancellor Mihir Kanti Chaudhuri — refused to talk to the media both in Burdwan and at Santiniketan.
The two had earlier reached the university campus at Santiniketan and after taking some rest went to Burdwan to meet the girl, a student of Kala Bhavan (school of fine arts).
They are scheduled to probe the incident on Sunday.
The girl’s father claimed he was first asked to be at Visva-Bharati as the UGC team members would talk to him, but after reaching there, he was told to return as they would talk to his daughter only.
Stating that he was upset by the development, he said her daughter would not continue her studies at Visva-Bharati.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of the BMCH Dr Utpal Dan said the condition of the girl is stable. The medical board would examine her on Wednesday and the decision would be taken about her release after that.
The girl had lodged a complaint to the university authorities last week that three students of her department and an outsider had sexually harassed her.
The three students, two from the second year and one from third year, were later arrested and are now under judicial custody. The outsider is yet to be arrested.
She had left the campus with her father on August 30 after meeting Vice-chancellor Susanta Dutta Gupta. However, she returned and lodged a police complaint on September 3.
She had agreed to record her statement before a judicial magistrate in Bolpur court under Section 164 of the CrPC but could not as she fall sick and was hospitalised.
