India slaughter England; take series

India won its first bilateral series against England in England after 1990 as it beat the hosts by 9 wickets on Tuesday with 117 balls to spare. 

In reply to England’s 206, the Indians opened with Rahane and Dhawan, who quickly took the score to 57/0 in 10 overs. They continued slaughtering the English bowlers, taking the score to 116/0 in 20 overs, with Rahane crossing his 50.
With a 150 on the board, Rahane and Dhawan, who also reached his 50, put up India’s highest opening stand against England in England.

India’s first casualty came in the form of Rahane, who was taken by Gurney for 106. Finally, Dhawan (97) and Kohli (1) took the team home.

Earlier, India won the toss and elected to bowl first. Cook and Hales opened, both falling in the 6th over — Cook for 9 and Hales for 6 — taken by Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. Ballance and Root were the new men in but the former fell in the 8th over to Shami, taking the score to 23/3. Morgan joined Root and took the score to 41/3 in 15 overs and then to 87/3 in 25. Morgan fell in the 29th over for 32 to Jadeja.

Buttler walked in and Root departed in the 33rd over, taken by Raina for 44. Moeen was the next man in, but in the 40th over, Buttler was taken by Shami for 11, taking the score to 164/6. Woakes fell in the 45th over for 10, Moeen fell in the 47th for a well-made 67, removed by Ashwin. The next over saw Finn depart for 3, taken by Jadeja and Gurney’s fall in the last over for 3 wrapped up the English innings at 206.
