Nokia Launches Budgetary Quad Core Smartphone

Date:

In an apparent bid to re-gain its lost space in the Budget Smartphone segment, Microsoft-owned Nokia has launched its new Lumia series 530 and 530 Dual SIM. The budget-grade 3G smartphone is a follow-up to the Lumia 520 and 525 and the first Lumia launch since Microsoft finalized its Nokia acquisition in late April.

Commenting on the launch, Jo Harlow, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Devices Group said, “We are moving quickly to help more people experience the uncompromised Lumia technologies, third party apps, and Microsoft services that we deliver on our flagship products. Lumia 530 underscores our commitment to making affordable smartphones for everyone, and introducing more people to the best of Microsoft.”

The Nokia Lumia 530 comes with Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Cyan update and support firmware over-the-air (FOTA) updates and the best part is it’s bundled with Nokia Drive+ for world-wide navigation, unlike the single-country Drive navigation of the Lumia 520. However, the internal storage has been halved to 4GB, giving you less scope for phone storage. But it is expandable up to 128 GB.

Both the new Lumia handsets come with identical specifications, except that the latter supports dual-SIM functionality. The smartphone has a 4 inch FWVGA LCD display with 854 x 480 resolution, same as Lumia 520 but with a 16:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by a Snapdragon 200 with a quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 processor with Adreno 302 alongside 512MB of RAM.

The camera is a disappointing 5 megapixels and from the look of it, there seems to be no front camera. It comes preloaded with digital camera add-ons such as Bing vision, Nokia Camera, and Nokia Glam Me.

The handset packs a 1430mAh battery which is rated to deliver up to 10 hours of talk time and up to 528 hours of standby time. The smartphone comes with GPRS/ EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth (4.0), GPS and Micro-USB connectivity options. Notably, both the handsets support Micro SIMs.

The smartphones measures 119.7×62.3×11.7mm and weigh 128 grams. Both the handsets will be available in Bright Orange, Bright Green, Dark Grey, and White colour variants. Further, the Lumia 530 and Lumia 530 Dual SIM sport changeable shells.

The company has announced a price tag of €85 (roughly Rs. 6,900), before taxes and subsidies, for both the smartphones. The Lumia 530 and Lumia 530 Dual SIM will be available starting August in select markets.
