Sonia vows to restore the pride of Congress

Rae Bareli: In her first appearance in her parliamentary constituency after the Lok Sabha polls, Sonia Gandhi vowed to restore the pride of Congress.

“I will lead the party in its revival, lead from the front,” she told a meeting of Congress workers, adding, “You have to take a vow that as long as you don’t restore the aan, baan, shaan (pride and prestige) of the Congress, we will not stop.”

In UP, the party could only win 2 of the 80 seats, with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi emerging as the only winners. The Congress Vice-President won only by 1.07 lakh votes against a margin of 3.70 lakh votes in 2009. After the drubbing at the hands of BJP, the morale of Congress workers has hit a new low.
