Six rape cases are registered in the last seven days in UP, ringing alarm bells of lawlessness.
On Monday, four rape cases were reported from Meerut, Firozpur, Fatehpur and Bareilly. In Bareilly, a 22-year-old woman was killed after her attackers gang-raped her and forced acid down her throat. This was followed by the rape and hanging of two girls, aged 12 and 14, who had gone out to relieve themselves at night in Katra Saadatganj village, Badaun district last week.
In Meerut, a 10-year-old girl playing outside her home was abducted and gang-raped by unidentified men who later also tried to run her over by their car. She escaped with broken bones. Another young girl was raped by a man at knifepoint in her house in Gavada village under Fatehpur district, 80 km east of Kanpur. The man, identified as Chotey Sahu, 24, was arrested.
After a week, police say the investigation is still on.
Five persons, including two police constables, have been arrested so far.
