What are his date and place of birth?
Born on 17 September 1950 in the ancient town of Vadnagar, Modi seeks out his mother Heeraben every year to make sure he receives her blessings.

Where was he educated?
He did his master’s degree in Political Science from Gujarat University. He also trained as an RSS pracharak where he learned about India, Hinduism and family life while living with the families of RSS followers. He has conservative, some may say even old-fashioned views on women and family.

He married Jashodaben Chimanlal but left her soon after marriage.

Is he religious?
Modi fasts for all 9 days during the Navratra period, allowing himself one piece of fruit per day. He avoids having the special Navratra thali allowed once a day.

What are his hobbies?
Modi has a fetish for wrist watches and sandals. He is also concerned about his public appearance and makes it a point to carry a comb with him at all times. He also has numerous ‘khes’ angvastras ready at all times.

How did he start his career?
Joined the RSS in 1970 and was soon given charge of the Sangh Parivar’s student wing, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. He was assigned to the BJP in 1985.

What is his daily schedule?
He gets up no later than 5:30, and begins his day by going online and reading media reports on him, especially by his critics. He then proceeds to call party workers from all over India.He has the reputation of a workaholic and stays in office as late as 10 pm if necessary.

Modi left his family at the age of 16 to go to Rajkot’s Ramakrishna mission. His family had no contact with him for two years. He was unsure as to what he wanted to do and also visited the Belur Math in West Bengal as well as the Himalayas.

What is his biggest achievement? 
His Jyotigram Yojna, which provides electricity to all Gujarati households 24×7, is considered one of his most important policy implementations to date. He is known as demanding chief minister who expects a lot from his government officials.

What recognition has he received?
He was voted best Chief Minister in a nationwide survey conducted in 2006 by India Today. Modi also appeared on the Asian cover of Time magazine in March 2012.
