Sambhar Salt Lake: The world’s most powerful solar plant will come up near Sambhar Salt Lake in Rajasthan. To be spread over 77 sq. km, it will be larger than Manhattan, and 10 times more powerful than the existing one. Â
Six state-owned companies have formed a joint venture to execute the project, which they expect to complete in seven years at a projected cost of $4.4 billion. It will have a life of 25 years and is reckoned to supply 6.4 billion kilowatt-hours per year. It could help reduce India’s carbon dioxide emissions by more than 4 million tons a year.
