T20 World Cup 2024: Afghanistan Qualify For Semi-Finals After Beating Bangladesh

Date:

Kingstown: Afghanistan has made history by defeating Bangladesh by 8 runs (DLS method) and qualifying for the T20 World Cup semi-final for the first time on Monday.

This win for Afghanistan means that Australia will pack their bags and go home as they have been eliminated from the tournament as per an NDTV report. This will be Afghanistan’s first appearance in the semi-finals of a major ICC event. Rashid Khan’s four-wicket haul took Afghanistan to the finishing line by defending a low total.

During the match, Rashid Khan showed his brilliance with the bat as well and hit a 10-ball 19-run cameo which took the Afghans past the score of 100. So now the four semifinalists are here: India, England, South Africa and Afghanistan.

Opting to bat first Afghanistan got off to a steady start and played cautiously as the conditions were not easy to bat on as Bangladesh kept on bowling tight deliveries. Afghanistan finished on 115. Afghanistan’s brilliant bowling didn’t allow the Bangladesh batsman to open and except for Litton Das, no other Batsman from Bangladesh could perform.

Afghanistan will play South Africa in the first semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup on Thursday and India will play England in the second semi-final on Thursday.
