BBC Row: Screening At Mumbai College Amid Warning From Admin

Date:

Mumbai: Amid the controversy over the screening of the banned BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, students of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) allegedly organized the screening of the documentary despite the institute warning the students against it.

The TISS administration in a notice said that “It is with utmost seriousness we note that some students, through a group, are engaged in activities contravening the advisory issued on 27th January regarding the screening of a BBC Documentary forbidden by the Government and attempting to mobilise and trigger students to do the same”.

According to media reports, even after a warning issued by the administration, the group of students claimed that they are not changing the plan of screening the forbidden documentary.

A protest was staged by the members of Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha against the screening of the documentary. However, the students claim to go ahead with the plan.

In another incident, Pune’s Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), informed the Student Association of FTII that the documentary was screened on January 26.

While speaking on the alleged attempts of the ruling government to ban the screening of the documentary, the student association mentioned that “curbing the freedom of media; banning of literature, music, literature etc is a sign of a society that is trodding downhill.”

Earlier, this month, the government denounced the BBC series ‘the Modi Question’, calling it a “propaganda piece designed to push a discredited narrative”. The government also pulled down the series from various social media platforms, including Twitter and Youtube.
