Fact Check: Government Has Not Announced to Ban 3G & 4G Mobile Networks; It’s a Fake Viral Claim

Date:

Major companies like Jio and Airtel have rolled out phase 1 of 5G all over the country. While Jio’s 5G is available in cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Varanasi and Delhi, Airtel has rolled out 5G in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Nagpur and Varanasi.

In the above context, many social media users claim that the government has announced to ban all the 3G and 4G networks soon in the country, asking mobile manufacturing companies to integrate 5G in all smartphones costing above ₹10,000.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile did the fact-check, and found it to be fake.

On searching Google with appropriate keywords, we found a report by Dainik Bhaskar. According to the report, the government has told the mobile manufacturing companies to stop manufacturing 4G smartphones above ₹10,000. But there are no reports of government banning 3G or 4G mobile networks.

The PIB Fact Check has also tweeted to refute the viral claim. (English translation: “It is being claimed in some media reports that the Indian government has instructed smartphone companies to stop manufacturing 3G and 4G smartphones. This news is fake. Government of India has not given any such direction.”)

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is fake.
