Fact Check: Arvind Kejriwal’s Morphed Banner Praising Speed Breaker Construction Goes Viral; Here’s The Truth

Date:

An image of a banner is going viral on social media that has Arvind Kejriwal’s photo with a slogan in Hindi.

The Hindi slogan reads, “बधाई! सागरपुर सब्जीमंडी के पास स्पीड ब्रेकर का निर्माण किया गया.”

(Translation: Congratulations! Speed breaker constructed near Sagarpur vegetable market)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile did a fact-check and found the claim to be fake.

On doing a Reverse Image Search, we found that a similar image was tweeted by Prateek Som, Supreme Court advocate and National spokesperson – Jannayak Janata Party on November 8, 2020.

In this image, the slogan read as, “बधाई! जखीरा गोलचक्कर से मुण्डका रोहतक रोड का मरम्मत कार्य शुरू दिल्ली सरकार.”  (Translation: Congrats! road construction between Goalchakkar and Mundka Rohtak has started…Delhi government).

The image was shared with the caption, “Banners of @ArvindKejriwal at every 15-20 meters. Congratulations for what? For repair work of road. Is he a CM or what? Only advertisement no work.”

We compared the viral image with the one uploaded by Prateek Som and found out that except for the slogan both the photos were the same.

We also found media reports of road construction between Delhi and Rohtak, that took place after 9 years. The Times of India reported on November 7, 2020, that Arvind Kejriwal laid the foundation for road redevelopment between Rohtak and Delhi.

Hence, we can evidently conclude that an old image has been morphed and is being shared online with a false claim.
