UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has appreciated the role played by India and other nations in helping the global community tackle the effects of COVID-19.
India has already begun exporting ‘hydoxychloroquine’ tablets to 55 nation’s.
“The Secretary General calls for global solidarity in this struggle against the virus, and that means that every country who is in a position to help another country should. And we salute those countries that are doing so”, Spokesperson for the UNSG Stephane Dujarric said when asked about India’s role in exporting these tablets.

The US Food and Drug Administration has cleared the use of this anti-malarial drug for treatment related to COVID-19.
Ever since, India lifted its export ban of this drug, the demand for it has surged in the international market and India is in the process of providing this drug to about 55 nations.
While the US and Mauritius have already received the drug, other nations such as Kazakhstan, Russia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Afghanistan, Maldives, Dominican Republic and Oman amongst others are in process of receiving supplies from India.
US President Donald Trump has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has thanked him for the export of these tablets to the US.
The US FDA has decided to experiment with these tablets. 1500 affected patients will be given these tablets in New York to see how the anti-bodies react to them.
