‘Even if you are stuck on mars, Indian embassy there will help you.’
Sushma Swaraj’s famous tweet can never be forgotten. It reflects her conviction, confidence and enthusiasm to help her countrymen in their hour of need. That was the magnetism of Sushma Swaraj. Unfortunately, we lost this exemplary leader to a cardiac arrest on Tuesday evening. A day of deep mourning for the entire nation.
So, what set her apart among her many political counterparts?
She was a peoples’ person, an approachable minister, the solution provider, the strategist for her party and the diplomacy lady that the entire nation cheered for.
She pushed for citizen friendly measures, created a quick technological friendly redressal method and stood like a rock for the party in times of crisis. Her new style of dynamic engagement on Twitter, helped her enhance her popularity. No wonder then that in 2018, she crossed a Twitter follower count of 11 million, to become the world’s most followed woman leader
Sushma Swaraj was respected across the spectrum. Opposition parties, world diplomats, parties with differing ideologies – each were left in rapt attention when the fiery Sushma started her speeches. That was her aura.
A seven-time member of parliament, Sushma Swaraj was a milestone in good governance, ethical politics and a firm stand for her values.
She was also a true champion of voicing women’s rights.
She will be missed.
