Winnie the Pooh’s 100 acre wood map auctioned for a whopping $200,000

Date:

Everyone has grown up reading Winnie the Pooh books or watching the movies. Many have wanted to visit the 100 acre woods and it seems like it might not be impossible and in case you are lost, there is always the map to help guide you back.

The 100 acre wood map is actually said to be inspired by the Ashdown forest in Sussex. The illustrator of this 20th century map is E.H Shepherd. This is a valuable piece as it provides great insight in to the world of Winnie the Pooh.

The original version of the 100 acre wood map which was unseen for almost half a century is now up for auction at Sotheby’s in London and is said to be sold for 200,000 dollars. This map not only captures the woodland world but also portraits characters such as Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin and landmarks such as “Bee tree” and “gloomy place”. However there are certain places mentioned in the book which are not shown in the map.

This map has also been featured in the opening sequence of the animation, Winnie-the-Pooh and the Honey Tree as well as the opening and ending pages of the original book, Winnie-the-Pooh which was written by A.A Milne and was published in 1926.

It has also been termed as “one of the most famous maps in English literature.” Another prominent feature of this map are the misspelled words such as “100 aker wood” and the “nice for picknicks”.

Along with this historic map 4 other Winnie the Pooh character illustrations drawn by E.H Shepherd are also being auctioned.
