‘Violation Of Existing Agreements Has Eroded…’ Says Rajnath Singh As He Meets Chinese Counterpart

Date:

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday raised the issue related to the LAC with his Chinese counterpart General Li Shangfu, stressing that the violations of existing agreements have eroded the entire basis of bilateral relations.

According to a statement released by the ministry, two ministers had frank discussions about the developments in the India-China border areas as well as bilateral relations on the eve of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) defence ministers’ meeting.

The statement added that the Defence minister “conveyed that development of relations between India and China is premised on the prevalence of peace and tranquility at the borders.”

He further added that “violation of existing agreements has eroded the entire basis of bilateral relations and disengagement at the border will logically be followed with de-escalation.”

The meeting comes days after the 18th round of military talks between the Indian Army and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.

Defence Minister also held bilateral meetings with the defence ministers of Kazakhstan, Iran, and Tajikistan.

During the chaired meeting, bilateral defence-related issues and other matters of mutual interest were discussed by the ministers.
