‘Violated Diplomatic Etiquette’: India Slams Chinese Ambassador’s Remarks

Date:

Colombo: The Indian Embassy in Colombo on Saturday responded to the remarks made by the Chinese Ambassador and pointed out the Chinese Envoy’s violation of basic diplomatic etiquette.

The Indian Embassy took to Twitter and added that “We have noted the remarks of the Chinese Ambassador. His violation of basic diplomatic etiquette may be a personal trait or reflecting a larger national attitude.”

The statement further added that “His view of Sri Lanka’s northern neighbour may be coloured by how his own country behaves.” It also pointed out envoy’s imputing a geopolitical context to the visit of a purported scientific research vessel is a giveaway.

Earlier China in a statement said that “some countries, far or near, always make various groundless excuses to bully Sri Lanka, and trample on Sri Lanka’s sovereignty and independence.” The statement further claimed that China has always been supporting Sri Lanka and “protecting its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.”

The Indian Embassy further pointed out the “debt driven agendas” to be a major challenge for smaller nations and said that the island nation needs support and “not unwanted pressure or unnecessary controversies to serve another country’s agenda.”
