US-North Korea summit probably after June 12

Date:

The much-touted United States-North Korean summit may be extended beyond June 12 though unlikely to be canceled in spite of a recent letter by the US President, Donald Trump hinting at putting it off. Trump took to Twitter to confirm that the talks were on.

The US President, as per a Press release by the White House last week, had called off the much-anticipated US-N Korea summit.

He had blamed the ‘hostility’ and anger displayed by North Korea over the US-South Korea Max military drills for canceling the talks.

“Sadly, based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement, l feel it is inappropriate at this time to have this long-planned meeting,” Trump had said in the release.

The fate of the summit had been in a lurch since North Korea threatened to cancel the meeting due to the US-South Korean ‘Max’ military drills.

It was followed by Trump’s statement through which he counter-attacked the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-Un saying that the lack of steps taken towards denuclearization may jeopardize the upcoming meeting.

Morover, last week Trump had written a letter to Kim in which he stated that due to North Korea’s hostile behavior he may delay or cancel the summit.
