Ahmedabad, Sep 6 (PTI) A world record was today createdwhen more than 2,000 men and women performed the traditionalumbrella dance at the famous Tarnater fair, in Surendranagardistrict of Gujarat, officials said. "I congratulate the district administration forsetting a world Guinness book record, when over 2,000 peopleperformed traditional umbrella dance at the Tarneter fair,"said Chief Minister Vijay Rupnai, who witnessed the event. The record has been accepted by Guinness World Records,an official release said. Traditionally, the dance is performed in rural partsof the state with wooden umbrellas. However, in today’s dancemodern colourful umbrellas were used by participants. The fair is held every year in the village namedTarnater. It is very famous among the rural population of thestate, who throng their in large numbers in traditionalattire. Traditional dance performance and traditional gamesare the main highlight of the fair. The state also organisecompetition of traditional games in the fair.
