Udhampur: Suspected militants on Thursday night attacked a police post in a remote area of Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, injuring two special police officers (SPOs), a day after a terror strike there saw a Pakistani terrorist being captured by villagers.
According to a senior district official, the militants attacked the post in the mountainous Basantgarh area of the district at 9:15 P.M, leaving the two SPOs injured even as the security personnel deployed there retaliated to the firing.
Additional police and army personnel have been rushed to the area to deal with the situation, the senior district official said.
According to reports, heavy firing is on in the area.
On Wednesday, militants had attacked a BSF convoy in Udhampur which had resulted in the death of two BSF jawans and a militant.
The captured terrorist after the first round of investigation said that he hailed from Faisalabad, Pakistan and had been on Indian soil for the past 12 days.
The terrorists were backed by Pakistan’s Inter-Serivces Intelligence (ISI) and sent to wage war against India, Jammu and Kashmir police said on Thursday.Â
“During the course of preliminary investigation, it transpired that the terrorists involved in the attack are trained ‘fidayeens’ and backed by Pakistan’s ISI in order to wage war against the government of India,” is what the police said in its preliminary report submitted to Udhampur District Magistrate Shahid Iqbal Choudhary.Â
However, Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Syed Qazi Khalilullah had said that India should provide evidence of any Pakistani involved in terrorist activity on Indian soil, adding that they have constantly asked India to refrain from accusations.
There had been many warnings from the intelligence about a possible terror attack in Udhampur, which is a vulnerable spot due to the ongoing Amarnath yatra.
