SUVs coming to India in 2015

Date:

New Delhi: SUVs have been the preferred choice for most car lovers across the country and those who wish to ride a vehicle that has off-road capability as well as masculine looks, these bulky cars come as a blessing to them.

Automakers expect 2015-16 to be far more fertile and productive than the previous years. We have seen the interest for compact SUVs in India grow by a great margin since the launch of Renault Duster in 2013. Then came the Ford EcoSport, which took the madness for these urban SUVs to a whole new level.

NewsMobile brings you eight SUVs that are scheduled to be launched in India in 2015.

Chevrolet Compact SUV

Better known as the Adra – this compact SUV was showcased at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. Based on General Motors’s new global small-vehicle platform, the Gamma 2, the concept was developed by Indian designers at GM’s technical centre in Bangalore, India.
In terms of engine, GM could either pick from the ones that power its other cars sold in India, i.e. the 1.3-litre diesel and the 1.4-litre petrol, or use its new 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder Ecotec engine that is known for delivering not only high-performance, but also impressive fuel economy.
Expected Price: Rs 6 lakh-8 lakh

Audi Q7

The new generation of the Q7 was revealed in the 2015 Detroit Motor Show, and it is likely to make it to India by mid-2015. This new generation Q7 is 37mm shorter and 15mm narrower than before, with an additional 21mm of leg room. The initial batches of the 2015 Q7 will be brought to India as CBUs.
The Q7 elevates luxury and capability to a new level. With three rows of seating, a refined interior and impressive power options, the Q7 delivers a stunning performance for a party of seven.
Expected Price: Rs 70 lakh-85 lakh

Honda CR-V Diesel

Honda has unveiled the 2015 CR-V facelift and is ready to hit Indian markets. While the design of remains largely unchanged, customer feedback has inspired some tweaks to the popular SUV. Wider front bumpers are outlined in chrome trim and the rear lamps have been reshaped. Honda has also supplied a choice of new alloys.
While the 1.5-litre engine makes 100bhp, the larger 1.6-litre will make an impressive 118bhp. There’s an impressive 589-litre boot, which grows to 1,648 litres of room with the seats folded down – enough fit two mountain bikes easily into the boot, standing upright. The seats fold easily, too.
Expected Price: Rs 25 lakh-30 lakh

Hyundai ix25

The Hyundai ix25 is one of the most-anticipated SUVs in India and was recently unveiled at the 2014 Guangzhou Auto Show. The design is based on Hyundai’s popular ‘Fluidic Sculpture 2’ and shares design cues with the Santa Fe. This upcoming Hyundai SUV measures 4270mm in length, 1780mm in width and 1630mm in height and gets a wheelbase of 2590mm.
The ix25 is expected to arrive here in the second half of 2015, where it might come equipped with a 1.4-litre VTVT and a 1.6-litre CRDi diesel engine – the same set of engines that also power the Hyundai Verna.
Expected Price: Rs 7 lakh-10 lakh

Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha

Considering how quickly the compact SUV segment has picked up pace in India, Maruti Suzuki will field its own entrant in the segment pretty soon. First unveiled as a concept at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo, the Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha will be a sub 4-metre compact SUV powered by the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre multi-jet diesel mill, which also powers many other Maruti cars, including Swift and Swift Dzire.
If reports are to be believed, Maruti Suzuki India is also working on its own diesel engine line-up, which, if ready on time, might be fitted in the XA Alpha.
Expected Price: Rs 6.50 lakh-10 lakh

Volkswagen Taigun

Showcased at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, the Taigun compact SUV concept looks good with a twin-split grille, rear-mounted spare wheel, roof rails, rugged side-cladding and a low height. The Taigun is based on a stretched version of the PQ12 platform.
Volkswagen is expected to launch the SUV in 2015 last. However, rumours suggest that it may push the launch next year.  The Taigun-inspired SUV is expected to feature a new 1.0-litre turbo-charged TSI petrol engine, which will develop 105bhp and 175Nm of peak torque.
Expected Price: Rs 8 lakh-10 lakh

Mahindra S101

The largest utility vehicle maker of the country, Mahindra & Mahindra, is geared up to launch new SUVs in India as it does not want to share its supremacy with other contenders.
While two new compact SUVs and revamped Bolero are already under testing phase, the Indian carmaker is almost ready to launch a sub 4 meter SUV – S101 in the market. Powered by the same Quanto’s 1.5-litre 3-cylinder diesel engine, the compact SUV will be placed below Bolero in Mahindra’s portfolio.
Expected Price: Rs 4.5 lakh-6.5 lakh

Renault Lodgy

Renault India released the first picture of its upcoming MPV – the Lodgy – in December, 2014, and recently went on to unveil the vehicle at the Renault Star Guild Awards. While globally the Lodgy is sold with the Dacia badge, India will see it sold as a Renault product.
Expected to roll out by early 2015, the Indian model of the MPV will get some notable changes that will help Renault price it aggressively. Though the company hasn’t revealed the engine specs and other details yet, Lodgy will share its underpinning with other Renault products and might use the same 1.5-litre, 84bhp diesel engine that also powers the Duster.
Expected Price: Rs 6.50 lakh-9 lakh
