The summer is knocking at the doorsteps now and you have to be prepared to welcome it. Apart from the daily diet here are few food items that will keep you fit and going this summer.

They are rich in antioxidants known as anthocyanins, blackcurrants are being hailed for their effects on muscle recovery, performance and fat-burning. It increases fat loss by up to a third during exercise. It may also dilate the blood vessels in a body, resulting in up to 20 percent increased blood flow.a

Inulin

Inulin is found commonly in chickpeas, chicory, bananas, asparagus and lentils: its concentrated form is now being used as a mild yet nutritionally rich sweetener. According to some researchers, Inulin is only 0.1 on the sweetness index, compared to sugar, which is one, so it only has one-tenth the sweetness.

Watermelon seeds are a part of our snacking trend and should feature in our diet: once they have been sprouted and shelled, they can be roasted to give a tasty and nutritional boost. Watermelon seeds are packed with protein, vitamin B, magnesium and monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Sprinkle them on your salad for an added crunch.

Algae

Algae is rich in omega-3 fats known as EPA and DHA, found only in oily fish and not made by the body. Algae is a great omega-3 source for those who avoid animal products.

Activated charcoal has been used for as a detoxifier since ages. You can try it as a black drink or add some powdered charcoal tablets to your beauty regime for clearer skin.

Maca

Maca is a root which is rich in vitamins; it boosts your sex drive and improves stamina. Commonly found in powder form, it is also said to enhance overall well-being. A teaspoon in your breakfast smoothie or with a shake and you will be fresh for the day.

Purple veggies

Purple cauliflower, black rice, purple asparagus, elderberries, Acai or purple sweet potatoes as placing purple on your plate as the density of nutrients and antioxidants is richer in these vegetables.
