Kolkata: Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has been unanimously chosen the President of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, CAB joint secretary and current treasurer Biswarup Dey and Sourav Ganguly had met Mamata. Besides Ganguly, it was touted that Dey was also in contention for the post of presidency.
On Wednesday, Ganguly had arrived at the state secretariat along with the late Jagmohan Dalmiya’s son Abhishek and held an hour-long meeting with the chief minister.
The meeting between the two was speculated to be about the discussion of Ganguly succeeding the late Jagmohan Dalmiya as the next CAB president.
Hailed as the architect of India’s rise as the game’s financial superpower, Jagmohan Dalmiya, passed away in a private hospital in Kolkata on Sunday. He was 75.
