Sex workers in Kolkata rally for equal rights social status

Kolkata: Sex workers in Kolkata recently took out a rally, pressing their demands of security and social status for their community. More than 1500 workers marched on the streets of Kolkata on international sex workers day (March 03). Members of largest sex workers organization, Durbar, were holding placards and raising slogans for their equal rights and status in the society. These sex workers from one of India’s biggest red light lane, Sonagachi in Kolkata, demanded the legalization of the world’s oldest profession. Dey also said that the day, which was started after efforts and labour put in by the sex workers of Sonagachi, is now celebrated worldwide.
