Senator Cornyn applauds USPS for issuing Diwali stamp

From Lalit K Jha Washington, Aug 25 (PTI) Senator John Cornyn, Co-Chair ofthe Senate India Caucus, today applauded the US Postal Servicefor issuing a stamp on Diwali, the festival of lights. "I applaud the Postal Service for this meaningfulrecognition of Diwali, a holiday important to Indian-Americansin Texas and across the country," Cornyn said in a statement. Cornyn and Senator Mark Warner, other Co-Chair of theSenate India Caucus, had introduced a resolution tocommemorate Diwali with a US Postal Service stamp last year. The stamp that shows a photo of a traditional ‘diya’ litagainst a sparkling gold background and the words ‘Forever USA2016’ written below will be formally unveiled on October 5. The holiday now joins other religious festivals honouredwith a commemorative stamp, including Christmas, Kwanzaa,Hanukkah, and Eid al-Fitr. PTI LKJ SUASUA
