Screening for dengue on at Mizo airport

Aizawl, Aug 20 (PTI) Mizoram Health and Family Welfaredepartment has begun screening of suspected dengue cases atLengpui Airport, near here. Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) statenodal officer Dr Pachuau Lalmalsawma told PTI today that oneperson infected with dengue was found at the airport andentered Mizoram by flight. The person was being treated. The screening would continue in view of the prevalence ofdengue in West Bengal and neighbouring Assam. The state government has set up sentinel surveillanceunit at Aizawl Civil Hospital and south Mizoram’s Lungleidistrict hospital and is being manned by experts, he said. So far, 115 samples have been tested in the state andonly one case was found to be positive, he said, adding thepatient was already cured. Meanwhile, not a single case of Japanese encephalitis hasbeen detected in the state even as outbreak of the disease wasreported in neighbouring Manipur state, he added. PTI HCV KKIKA
