Saket Court declared tobacco-free zone

New Delhi, Aug 18 (PTI) The authorities in Saket DistrictCourts here have appointed four officers to spread awarenessabout the adverse impact of tobacco consumption, whiledeclaring the complex as a tobacco-free zone under the’tobacco-free Delhi’ initiative of the local government. A circular issued by the office of District and SessionsJudge (South district) has declared Saket Courts Complex inSouth Delhi as tobacco-free in compliance of Tobacco ControlLegislation under Tobacco free Delhi initiative. The court authorities have also appointed four nodalofficers to spread awareness about tobacco and promote ‘NoTobacco Use’, it said. "All concerned visiting the Saket Courts complex arehereby informed that District Court complex Saket has beendeclared ‘tobacco free zone’ in compliance of Tobacco ControlLegislation under Tobacco free Delhi initiative. "Use of any kind of tobacco products like Gutkha, Zarda,Pan Masala having nicotine/tobacco as ingredients in Delhi inpremises of Saket court is prohibited," the circular signed byDistrict and Sessions Judge Neena Bansal Krishna, who is alsothe Chairperson of Environment and Horticulture Committee ofSaket court complex, said. The Delhi government has already banned sale, purchaseand storage of chewable tobacco products, but was not able toimplement it because of court cases filed by some tobaccomanufacturers which are still pending.
