Quicker and better: Porsche 992 revealed ahead of LA Auto Show 2018

Porsche revealed the eight generation of their 911 Carrera S and 4S at the Porsche Experience Center in Los Angeles, ahead of the LA Auto Show 2018, which will commence on Friday.

The ‘everyday supercar’, which retains the signature shape that it’s had for generations, houses a turbocharged flat-6 engine, churning 443 hp, which is 23 hp higher than the previous generation.

The initial models of the Carrera S and 4S, that will arrive in the dealerships next year, will be offered only with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Porsche estimated a manual transmission for later sales.

The new 992 is half a second faster than the previous generation as it sprints from 0-60 mph in just 3.4 seconds with an all-wheel drive (AWD), while the rear-wheel drive (RWD) Carrera S can do the same run in 3.5 seconds, which is 0.4 second faster than the last version. The cars can attain a top speed of at least 190 mph and offer a new ‘Wet Mode’ which aids the car in tackling wet and slippery conditions.

The eight-gen 911 features a 10.9-inch touchscreen as compared to the 7.0 inches in the previous generation. The cars come with a 18-way power adjustable sport seats and adaptive dampers for better control on tight corners. The interiors like the flat dashboard and recessed instruments are borrowed from the 1970s versions of the 911.

In addition to the aforementioned features, the car is also given automatic emergency braking as standard, adaptive cruise control and a night-vision camera. The infotainment system also uses cloud-based parking information via Porsche’s connectivity suite.

The exteriors on the new 911, while maintaining the basic genes from its predecessors, sports electrically powered door handles and a wider track by 1.77 inches to accommodate the wide 20- or 21-inch wheels. The body is an all- aluminium one for a greater strength and lighter weight. The taillights have been revamped to a new single rear light arrangement and the new 911 badge recalls the earlier generations of the car.

The initial price tag of the Carrera S will be $114,250 with AWD costing an additional $7,600.
