Parliament adjourned after TMC ruckus

Date:

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress MPs, for the second consecutive day, protested loudly in Parliament and held up placards after an ugly clash with members of the ruling BJP inside the Lok Sabha.

The protests forced both the houses – Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha – to adjourn as the Trinamool MPs gathered at the Well of the house and drowned proceedings with their slogan-shouting. They also held up posters screaming, “Attack on Democracy.”

The party has decided to move a privilege motion against BJP for what it alleges was the misbehaviour of their MPs inside the House. MPs from the two parties almost came to blows on Tuesday over the Railway Budget proposals.

Trinamool Congress leaders claimed they were protesting “peacefully” inside the Lok Sabha when they were abused and threatened by BJP lawmakers. Kalyan Banerjee of Trinamool was seen rushing out of Parliament shouting that a drunk BJP MP had threatened to beat up his party colleagues and misbehaved with disrobe Kakoli Ghosh, a woman MP. BJP has denied the accusations.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said in Kolkata, “Whatever happened (in the Lok Sabha) is unfortunate. The language used against our woman MPs and me is not correct. I am disgusted.”

The trouble began after Trinamool law-makers began shouting slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi to protest against the Railway Budget announced on Tuesday. They alleged that Bengal and its development had been ignored in the financial plan.
