NHRC directs action against Somnath Bharti

Date:

New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the Delhi police to take action against Aam Aadmi Party member Somnath Bharti for his midnight raid at the residence of African nationals in New Delhi Khirki’s Extension.

Activist-lawyer Shehzad Poonawala had petitioned against Bharti. A judicial probe had indicted the former Delhi law minister for his action.

Bharti had gone to Khirki Extension with a group of party volunteers and local residents where he claimed that a drug and prostitution ring was being run by some Ugandan women.

Bharti had initially asked the police to raid the house. When the police refused saying they did not have warrant to do so, he led the mob on the raid.
