New update allows users to create public events on Google Maps

Date:

Google Maps has a new feature in-the-making which will allow users to create public events with ease.

Android Police spotted a new bit of documentation on the Google Maps Help site that hinted at a process to add a public event through the Android app. The feature is currently live but it is not available for everyone.

The feature, called ‘Add a public event’ allows users to submit events similar to the public events being shown in Maps. The option appears in the main ‘contribute’ tab of the ‘your contributions’ sections, as well as in a new ‘events’ tab of the same section.

With the feature, you can add a name to the event, provide a location and time, pick a category of the event, describe it, and also provide a website.

How to add or create an event in Google Maps

Make sure that you have an updated Google Maps running in your phone. Given the limited availability to Android users, it is imperative that you go to the Google Play Store and see whether you have received an update.

  1. Open Google Maps application in your Android phone or tablet. Navigate to ‘Contribute’ tab > Events. Now tap the option ‘Add a public event.’
  2. Now, add all basic and required information like the name of the event, location, time and more. Simply follow all the on-screen instructions.
