NDRF AIIMS sign MoU for quick assistance in calamities

Date:

New Delhi: The NDRF, a leading force to combat disasters in the country, has signed an agreement with the AIIMS to jointly launch medical care and assistance services before and after a calamity.

The contract between the two leading agencies envisages that in the face of any disaster, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will extend all logistical and manpower help to the special doctors team of the trauma centre of the AIIMS to start a field hospital and on-ground medical centre.

“The force will extend all administrative support to experts of the premiere hospital for their efficient functioning during a disaster. This MoU will be helpful to NDRF in improving the efficiency of its medical officers, nurses and paramedics in the form of on-the-job training and hands-on experience in handling emergency cases,” NDRF Director General, O P Singh said.

The hospital, post this contract, will soon send a list of empanelled doctors who could be taken on-board NDRF missions in the event of a calamity.

Singh, during an event to mark the 10th Raising Day of the force, also requested Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to help it in resolving some issues faced by it.

The proposals include setting up a dedicated training centre for NDRF personnel, conversion and deployment of two SSB units with the force and a 30% special allowance for the personnel and officers who come to this organisation on deputation from various central paramilitary forces.

The NDRF, raised in 2006, has its ten battalions stationed at various locations in the country at present and it acts as a first responder during any natural or man-made disaster.
